Privacy policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and how to reach us about it.

Coastal Ledger is published by the Coastal Ledger Media Cooperative. This policy explains what information we collect from readers of this website and how it is used. It applies to every page on this domain.

Information we collect

Reading the site does not require an account. Our servers keep standard request logs — IP address, browser user agent, referring page and the page requested — for security and aggregate traffic measurement. If you email the newsroom, subscribe to a newsletter or create a membership, we keep the details you give us for as long as needed to provide that service.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of first-party cookies to keep you signed in to newsroom tools and to remember display preferences. Aggregate analytics tell us which stories are read and on what kind of device; we do not build advertising profiles of individual readers and we do not sell reader data to anyone.

Advertising and sponsorship

Advertising and sponsorship on the Ledger is sold directly and clearly labelled. Sponsored material is never presented as reporting, and advertisers receive no reader data beyond aggregate campaign performance.

Sources and confidentiality

Information sent to us by sources is handled under our editorial standards, not this policy. We do not disclose the identity of a confidential source, and we do not log the contents of encrypted tip channels.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser; the site will still work. To ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, write to newsroom@coastalledger.org and we will respond within thirty days.

Changes and contact

Material changes to this policy are noted on this page. Questions go to newsroom@coastalledger.org or 347 Fifth Avenue, Suite 208, New York, NY 10016.
