About us

Who we are

Coastal Ledger is an independent daily covering crypto markets, policy and regulation, DeFi and the protocols behind them.

Coastal Ledger is a daily news publication covering cryptocurrency markets, blockchain technology and the policy that governs them. We were founded in 2026 by four reporters who had covered financial markets and technology for larger newsrooms. We publish every weekday and whenever a market or a regulator moves.

Ownership and funding

The Ledger is owned by the Coastal Ledger Media Cooperative, a worker-owned cooperative. No single member holds more than a ten percent stake, and no exchange, token issuer, fund, political party or government body has any ownership interest. Revenue comes from reader memberships, display advertising and a small number of clearly labelled sponsorships. Advertisers and sponsors have no input into editorial decisions and see no story before publication. No member of staff accepts tokens, allocations or paid advisory roles from the projects they cover.

What we cover

Four desks — markets, policy and regulation, DeFi and yield, and protocols and tech — carry our daily report. We prioritise original, first-hand reporting: filings read, onchain data checked, sources interviewed by name. We do not republish wire copy or project press releases under our own byline, and we do not publish machine-generated articles.

Bylines and accountability

Every article carries the name, job title and contact address of the journalist who wrote it, along with the date and time it was published and the time of any subsequent update. Biographies for the whole newsroom are on the authors page.
