Accountability
Corrections policy
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we say so on the story itself.
Any reader can request a correction. Write to newsroom@coastalledger.org with the headline, the passage in question and, where possible, the source that shows the error. An editor acknowledges every request within one business day.
How we handle it
Correction. A factual error — a name, number, date or quote. We fix the text and append a dated correction note explaining what was wrong and what changed. The original error is described, not erased.
Clarification. Accurate but open to misreading. We rewrite for clarity and note the change.
Update. New developments in a running story. We add the material, move the update timestamp and, for significant changes, note what was added.
What we do not do
We do not unpublish accurate journalism on request. We do not make silent edits to factual claims after publication. Requests to remove a name are considered only where there is a demonstrable safety risk, and are decided by the editor.
Timing
Clear factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, normally within twenty-four hours. Contested requests are decided by the editor within five business days, and we tell the requester the outcome either way.
